Let`s start from the meaning of this word. In Malay language Astana means ‘palace’, ‘castle’, the name is variation of ‘istana’. The Astana is beautiful palace which is situated in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. Exact location of Government house is on the North bank of Sarawak, opposite the Kuching Waterfront. View from Kuching Waterfront is mesmerizing and perfect background for taking pictures.

The Astana has its own history. The Astana was built in 1870 by the second White Rajah, Charlese Brooke. It was wedding present for his spouse Margaret Alice Lili de Windt. Since then it had some renovations.

Now The Astana is official residence of Governor of Sarawak, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak. Government House is not open for public and it is part of Kuching Heritage Trail.

It’s a very beautiful place to visit just beside the Kuching Parliament house and Waterfront. At night it really looks good. The garden and river gives an amazing view.
